I’m a fan of the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame 10.1 inch Touch. It is a great size for most families and rooms, has a nice-looking display with touchscreen, and offers good storage. I love that you can change between portrait and landscape. The companion app is easy to use to upload your photos to the frame, crop them for display, and set up playlists. The ability to wall-mount the frame is a great option as well for a higher-end installation. Plus, at $209.99, it has some great features for the price point.
- Well-designed frame
- Nice HD touchscreen
- Easy-to-use app
- Nice transitions
- Portrait/Landscape compatibility
- Can be wall mounted
- The easel base is not attached to the frame, and it feels light; I worry that the frame could slip to be easily knocked off
Digital photo frames are all the rage these days, with most of our photos being taken on our mobile phones. Enter the new Nixplay Smart Photo Frame 10.1 inch Touch. This bright, high-definition frame has an easy-to-use touchscreen interface, and it is a great way to display your family’s precious memories.
Nixplay has been around for quite a while, so I was excited when we got the chance to review their new smart photo frame.
For a change, the new Nixplay Smart Photo Frame 10.1 inch Touch does not come with a remote control, embracing the new navigation options brought about by a touchscreen, which is a huge improvement over the way many brands do it. The 10.1 inch smart frame features a 1280×800 HD screen with an aspect ratio of 16:10.
The Nixplay Smart Photo Frame 10.1 inch Touch features built-in storage at 8GB and has two sensors to allow it to adjust to its surroundings.
The first sensor is an activity sensor with a 2.5m range, which enables the frame to go to sleep when there’s no activity in the area. The second sensor is an orientation sensor that switches the display between landscape and portrait depending on how the frame is placed.
Speaking of orientation, this is a nice feature that the Nixplay frames have compared to other smart frames. Other brands, Aura, for instance, have frames that are only able to be used in landscape orientation.
While the display is not as sharp as some competitors that feature 1920×1200 screens, Nixplay’s Smart Photo Frame 10.1 inch Touch still looks great, displaying your memories in your family room.
The companion app and touchscreen make setting up and navigating the frame a breeze. Via the Nixplay app, you can upload photos, create playlists, and even edit/crop your photos. You can also use your phone as a remote for your frame so you can take your friends through your vacation photos without standing next to the frame.
The design of the frame is classy yet unobtrusive. The frame itself isn’t a showpiece; that way, it lets the pictures do the talking. It’s a simple black frame with a gold accent at one corner.
The frame comes with a plastic easel on which the digital frame rests. I would like to see a more secure connection between the easel and the frame, considering the frame would break if it slid off the easel and hit the floor; I almost did that while setting it up but caught it.
One huge advantage is that you can wall-mount the Nixplay Smart Photo Frame 10.1 Inch Touch, a feature that isn’t available with many other digital photo frames. The only downside here is that you’ll want to hide the power able somehow.
While going through your slideshow of photos, the frame adds some nice transitions, including swipes, crossfades, and other cool effects. This is a nice feature to add some interest; however, the one thing I miss is support for “live photos” like those taken by iPhones. Other frames offer this, and it’s a nice feature that brings your photos to life.
The one feature I really appreciate is that you can rotate your frame between portrait and landscape orientation; this is an option that not all digital photo frames give you.
The Nixplay Smart Photo Frame 10.1 Inch Touch comes with 8GB of storage for your photos.
If you choose to join Nixplay’s subscription service, Nixplay Plus, you can take advantage of an additional 50GB of cloud storage for photos and videos, the ability to store and view up to 1-minute video clips, connect up to 10 frames to your account, and take up to 80% off custom-printed photos. Joining Nixplay Plus also extends your warranty to 5 years from the purchase date.
Dan: Perry did a great job covering the details, so I just wanted to add a few thoughts. I reviewed several Nixplay smart photo frames a few years ago, and I still enjoy using them around my house and in my office. I’ve also spent some time with this new offering, and like Perry, I’m impressed.
This frame is a bit more refined than the previous models. As a result, it looks more like a traditional frame than ever. I really appreciate that. I’ve never had an issue with the older models’ image quality, so the improved quality on this picture frame is a welcome update but not a huge deal to me.
I do, however, appreciate the use of a touchscreen for navigation and control. Each of my older Nixplay smart frames came with a small black remote. While they worked, they were, and are, a lesson in frustration. I love this update and think consumers will be pleased.
While spending over $200 on a picture frame may seem pricey, all three of my older review samples are still going strong, which, to my mind, makes these frames a good value. Plus, have you seen the price of custom frames lately? Overall, I am thrilled with this newest Nixplay smart frame. Back to Perry.
