Cons

A chef friend recently discussed the importance of his knife roll and how those tools shape how he works in the kitchen. I do a lot of cooking and cooking reviews and figured I needed to work on my knife roll. It just so happened I had the opportunity to review the Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar.

The Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar is a cleaver that can tackle almost any task, especially for an outdoor cook; cut, slice, smash, chop —  it really can do any task you put to it.

Every Vosteed knife I have tried has been well-designed and of great quality. This knife is no different. The full-tang construction gives the knife a nice weight and balanced control.

The Vosteed Grandknife Minibarbar comes with a leather cover

The Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar sports a 150.45mm 7Cr17MoV steel blade that is also 79.43mm wide; it is hand sharpened before shipping, so out of the box, it is razor sharp and ready to be put to work.

This tall blade is designed to give plenty of knuckle clearance and is great for moving ingredients around in a pan. It has a high-quality leather sheath that will protect it and help with storage.

The Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar has a cleaver shape

The blade’s choil is chamfered for a superior handle if you like to rest your thumb on the blade for control; the spine is tapered for weight distribution.

The Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar is available in four handle colors and steel finishes: Black (black micarta handle and black stonewashed blade finish), Green (green micarta handle with a satin finish blade), White (white micarta handle with a satin finish blade), and Gray (gray micarta handle with a Damascus blade).

The micarta handle is ergonomically sound, and the material is easy to keep clean. The end of the handle has a ring that can be used to hang the knife, and it also functions as a bottle opener, making this even more helpful for outdoor cooks.

The Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar is really sharp and has held an edge well through my cooks. I have come to love the weight and design because I can slice up the meat, skin potatoes, and even chop racks of ribs.

With a simple rinse of the blade, you can move on to the next task; this is the first tool I grab when I head outside to cook.

Slicing meat into the Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar

A sharp and comfortable knife is essential as a cook, not only for its job but also for safety.

The Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar has a perfect balance and gives me complete confidence to use it for considerable chops as well as delicate cuts; now, my family likes to joke that I “must get my Viking knife” anytime I start a cook.

Chopping ribs with the Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar

As you can see, the Vosteed Grandknife minibarbar made quick work of a rack of ribs. Even though it is not rated to chop bone, it easily cut through them when my aim got off.
