A few years ago my son and his friends were really into the webcomic Homestuck, a quirky adventure created initially in MS Paint that became quite the sensation based on the characters, setting, humor, stories and imaginative variations. Developer Pumpkin Studios captures that feeling in Hiveswap, an upcoming adventure game out this summer. Check out the teaser trailer!

Loop Straitjacket iPhone 6 Case Review – Perfectly Minimal

I hate phone cases, but know for most people they are a real need – and for our kids we mandated full-protection cases when we got iPhones a few years ago. I’ve reviewed cases before, and promptly removed them! So having Loop Straitjacket STILL on my iPhone for more than two months after installing it tells me this is something special.

Graven: The Purple Moon Prophecy on iOS

Have you ever played a game where you’re told that the world is in imminent danger from untold evil that only you can stop, yet you keep meeting people who task you with collecting berries and wolf skins? Fortunately that isn’t the case with Graven The Purple Moon Prophecy, where you have 7 hours before a terrible prophecy comes true!

Star Wars the Digital Collection Comes to iTunes and Amazon April 10th!

Part of my low-key recent birthday was watching a mid-afternoon movie. I wanted to watch one of my favorites, and ended up choosing ‘Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back’, a classic I saw in theaters 35 years ago and dozens of times since. Soon I can watch it on my iPhone, as a digital release arrives April 10th!

‘Legend of Dungeon’ Launching Free Expansion and Massive Update!

One of the funniest and most quirky indie games I have played in recent years was Legend of Dungeon, which was cute and punishing all at once. The game grew out of a successful 2012 Kickstarter effort and launched in late 2013. Now they are returning with a FREE expansion to the game with a ton of new features! Check out the updated trailer for the game: The expansion is called Legend Heroes and it has two kickass things going for it: it’s free, and it’s awesome! Legends Heroes adds in a pile of new content, like cowboys and chickens…

IK Multimedia Unveils UltraTuner for Android

Just over a year ago, IK Multimedia released UltraTuner for iOS devices, and my review summed up “It’s the Best iOS Tuner Available.” Between the accuracy, easy visibility and simple usability, there is no other tuner I have needed since. Now IK Multimedia has released UltraTuner for Android, allowing anyone with Android 4.1 or later to get in tune!

Amazon Prime Music Gets Ad-Free Prime Stations with Unlimited Skips

Over the last couple of weeks my wife has been saying “I am really liking this Amazon Prime Music“, because of added content and features that work with our Echo ‘smart speaker’. Today Amazon unveiled an updated iOS app that opens up streaming of Prime music with unlimited skips to Prime members, making the experience more ‘Pandora like’.

Why (Running) Milestones Matter: The Monday Mile

Throughout our lives there are transitional moments, starting or ending things like high school or marriages, celebrating awards and achievements. In running it’s no different – we had to start running, and depending on whether we race or not there will be a variety of memorable moments along the way. Running milestones are worth celebrating – let’s talk about why!

Avernum 2: Crystal Souls Coming to iOS April 15th

In my Mac/PC review of Avernum 2: Crystal Souls, I said “as you make more and more choices in one direction or the other they add up, your reputation is altered and the world before you subtly shifts. It’s wonderful to have a game so focused on your experience as a gamer.” The iPad version is coming April 15th!

Land Air Sea Warfare Brings Awesome Real-Time Strategy to Android

Real-Time Strategy (RTS) games are better suited for touchscreen than console, and in some ways are easier to control with your fingers than with a mouse! But there have not been too many RTS games of serious depth released for phones and tablets. One of my favorites is “Machines at War”, and the sequel is now available for Android!

Microsoft to Battle Windows Piracy with Free Windows 10 Upgrades!

Piracy limits the revenues a software maker can collect. It also limits the ability to update security and other essential services at the operating system level. This combination can result in all computer systems being less secure and potentially compromised. To battle this, particularly in piracy-rampant China, Microsoft is “offering free upgrades to Windows 10 to all Windows users.”

Opera Coast 4.1 Launches with ‘Turbo’ Video Boost Technology!

While mobile devices and networks keep getting faster, most of us occasionally deal with the frustration of having video or other content ‘buffering’. It gets much worse when on slower or erratic connections, so Opera has announced a new ‘Turbo’ technology built into an update of their Coast iOS browser that compresses videos to speed playback and lower data usage.

Questerium: Sinister Trinity for iPad Review

When a meteor lands in a small town, it seems too good to be true – tons of energy and no side effects. Or so people thought! Playing as a police investigator you need to explore the destroyed town and find the lost children who were trapped and left behind, and unravel what happened and how it all went wrong!

Check Out the ‘808’ Trailer – a Movie About a Drum Machine

I remember the Roland Rhythm Composer TR-808 at music stores in Boston and thinking it was cute and fun but not very ‘drum-like’, which was the prevailing opinion. Then songs like ‘Planet Rock’ and ‘Sexual Healing’ landed and suddenly it was THE sound – and has made a comeback in recent years. Now it gets a documentary premiering at SXSW.

Playstation Mobile Closing Storefront in July 2015, Shutting Down November

Playstation Mobile was the initiative Sony launched in late 2012 allowing ‘certified’ Android devices to play certain Playstation games. It started with Sony-Ericsson and the XPeria Play, and later extended to a number of HTC devices. However, in 2014 version 2.0 of the service was limited to the PS Vita and TV, and now the entire service is shutting down.

10 Reasons I Found the Apple Watch Event a Snooze-Fest

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Greg’s take on Why I’m Considering Getting an Apple Watch, more than I enjoyed yet another over-long, under-delivering Apple ‘event’. Part I can understand, as I was listening to the audio stream through my car for a half-hour, but I found this the biggest Apple snoozer I can recall. Let me give you 10 reasons why!
