Polar has been expanding their fitness portfolio beyond just heart rate monitoring, with a slew of activity trackers and GPS watches. Now they’re making the whole ecosystem even more holistic by adding weight management with the new Polar Balance scale! The Polar Balance scale is a wifi connected scale that hooks into the Polar Flow app. At only $99 it falls on the cheaper end of the connected scale options, but obviously it works best if you already have an investment in Polar via their activity tracking devices. At CES 2016, Gear Diary got a sneak peak at Brydge’s new clam shell-shaped Bluetooth keyboard for the iPad Pro, fittingly named the BrydgePro. The eBlocker and eBlocker Pro are two products now being featured on Kickstarter that allow you to combat unauthorized consumer data collection and ad blocking while browsing online. “The internet has evolved into mass surveillance, and most people have no idea how much data is collected without their knowledge and then used against them,” said Christian Bennefeld, founder, eBlocker. “User profiles employed by third parties can result in you paying more for goods, flights, hotels and can even influence insurance rates and…

Blue Lola Sealed Over-Ear High Fidelity Headphones: Experience Music the Way It Was Meant to Be Heard

Last year Dan and I took a look at the Blue Mo-Fi Headphones, and to this day, they are still among my favorites. At $349, the Mo-Fi might be a bit out of grasp for the casual audiophile, though. If you don’t necessarily need the built-in amplifier the Mo-Fi sports, then you should consider the comparably built, less expensive Lola. Included in the box are the Lola headphones, a soft travel case, an almost 4-foot long flat tangle-free audio cable with Apple iPhone/iPad controls and microphone, an (insanely long) flat 10-foot audio cable, and a 3.5mm-to-1/4 inch adaptor. If you…

The Fasetto Link Puts 2TB of Media In Your Pocket

One product that REALLY impressed me so far in CES hasn’t been talked about much but I’m pretty sure that it will in the next few days.   The Falsetto Link is a 2-terabyte cloud storage hub created by Luke Malpass, with whom I had the opportunity to meet to discuss the LINK, which essentially puts storage in your pocket that’s so lightweight that you’ll actually forget it’s there. Imagine a cloud storage system that not only has a wireless Solid State Drive with it’s own operating system and offline streaming capabilities, but it’s just a beauty in it’s own…

Fitbit Announces the Fitbit Blaze Smartwatch!

Fitbit is putting their mark on 2016 early, with a new device called the Fitbit Blaze. It’s a smartwatch with a full color touchscreen, but no GPS, and it will sit between the Charge HR and the Surge price-wise, at $199.95. The Blaze will be able to receive basic smartphone notifications, tracks your steps, various workouts, and heart rate, but it does not have standalone GPS; instead it uses what Fitbit calls “connected GPS”, which is just a smokescreen way to say the Blaze uses the GPS from your smartphone for outdoor distance tracking. There’s DNA from the Fitbit Flex…

Under Armour and HTC Will Whip You into Shape with Under Armour Healthbox!

Under Armour has been slowly building a fitness empire. They absorbed the MapMyRun suite of apps, Endomondo, and MyFitnessPal, but software was only phase one. Now they’ve made the leap from software to hardware, debuting a fitness tracker, heart rate monitor, connected scale and more, all bundled and sold as “Under Armour Healthbox“, and designed through a partnership with HTC. The UA Band looks suspiciously similar to the HTC Grip tracker that was announced but never released, but with a slightly different feature set. There’s no GPS on board, but it tracks steps, sleep, prompts you to move, picks up…
